I built one of these apps
This guide is written by Lightshot’s maker, and Lightshot is on the list. Every other app’s facts come from its own pages and US App Store listing, read on October 8, 2026, and each one gets a reason to choose it over Lightshot. Nothing here was tested hands-on: there are no accuracy, delay or reliability measurements behind it.
How this list was made
The apps are the ones that ranked or were cited as sources when we searched “best teleprompter app for iPhone” and related questions on October 8, 2026, plus the two newest apps that market retakes, Cue and HighlightMe.
Store ratings and rating counts are Apple’s US App Store figures, read from Apple’s public lookup service on October 8, 2026. A rating includes star taps from people who write nothing, which apps can ask for up to three times a year under Apple’s ratings and reviews rules.
Prices are in US dollars, from each listing’s in-app purchase list and the vendor’s pricing page on the same day, with the plan names the vendor uses.
Features come from each vendor’s own pages. “Not found in their documentation” means we looked and didn’t find it, which is weaker than “no”.
What people complain about comes from our collection of 22,114 written App Store reviews, gathered for a report dated September 26, 2026.

Sources: each app’s US App Store listing and Apple’s lookup service, plus the vendor pages linked from the comparisons below, read October 8, 2026. Teleprompter Pro used to be called Teleprompter Premium; Teleprompter Premium+, from Roadtrip Technologies, is a different app and isn’t in the table.
Lightshot’s row comes from the app. The networks you can connect are listed in Settings, Connected accounts; each network has to approve Lightshot first, and TikTok and YouTube posts stay private until those reviews pass.
What do people complain about in teleprompter apps?
Our September 2026 collection covered 30 apps, though not EyePrompt, Cue or HighlightMe, and read every 1 to 3 star teleprompter review and every review with a request from 2022 onward: 1,769 reviews. The counts below are approximate theme counts from that work, split between all-in-one apps that prompt, caption and edit, and prompter-first apps.
- About 130 of 901 low-rated reviews of the all-in-one apps described a billing or trial trap, and that share of their 1 to 3 star reviews rose from about 8% in 2022 and 2023 to about 18% in 2024 to 2026.
- About 70 reviews of the all-in-one apps and about 48 of the prompter-first apps reported a lost recording.
- About 22 reviews of the all-in-one apps and about 51 of the prompter-first apps described voice scrolling that stalled, lagged or jumped.
- About 80 reviews complained that the app couldn’t be tried before paying.
Two practical checks follow. Before a trial starts, find out where you’d cancel; Apple’s cancellation steps work for any App Store subscription. And before a long shoot, record a short take, close the app mid-take and see what survives. The full numbers, groups and limits are on the research page.
Prompters that follow your voice
Teleprompter.com
The default starting point. VoiceGlide runs on the device, waits when you improvise, covers 28 languages and is free on every plan, on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and the web. New this autumn, Director Mode puts the script beside the rear camera of an iPhone Duo. Its editing covers basics such as trimming and resizing; we didn’t find silence cuts. See the Teleprompter.com comparison.
PromptSmart
The VoiceTrack incumbent, in two editions: Pro is $29.99 once and English only; PromptSmart+ is a subscription with 15 languages and an Android app. A web Remote Control Room suits a crew with an operator. The PromptSmart comparison separates the editions.
Teleprompter for Video
At 4.87 it has the highest store rating of the apps here with thousands of ratings, and it is among the cheapest, with annual plans from $29.99 and scripts up to 750 characters free. Its floating mode lays the script over another camera app, and it records 720p to 4K at up to 60 fps, including 25 fps. More in the Teleprompter for Video comparison.
VoicePrompter
Word-by-word following against the whole script, “60+ Languages, Auto-Detected”, no account, and a Lifetime option at $99.99. It floats over other apps and runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and the web. See the VoicePrompter comparison.
EyePrompt
Released in July 2026, EyePrompt puts the script in a narrow band right under the front camera, follows in the script’s own language on the device, and shows an Eye Contact Score that, in its words, “measures. It never edits your eyes”. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac, at $39.99 a year with a 7-day trial or $99.99 once. It had five ratings when we checked.
For rigs, studios and set speeds
Teleprompter Pro and the free Teleprompter app, from Teleprompter Apps Ltd, are built for setups with more than one screen: other iPads and iPhones over Bluetooth, a browser on the same Wi-Fi, external displays and AirPlay, game controllers and the IKAN Elite Remote. They scroll at a speed you set rather than following your voice, which an operator often prefers. Together they carry nearly 50,000 ratings. See the Teleprompter Pro comparison.
Retakes inside the recording
Redoing a line without starting over is no longer rare. Cue’s listing says “Flub a line and you redo that line, not the whole thing”: you split the script into sections, shoot each as often as you like, and Cue merges the best takes on the device, then “Tighten” removes long pauses. HighlightMe’s listing says you can “Pause, resume and undo a segment as often as you like, and it all becomes one take”, with captions in your script’s words and an Apple Watch remote, for $29.99 a year.
Lightshot’s Redo the last sentence works without splitting the script first. It trims the take back to the start of the sentence you were reading and rewinds the script there; if that sentence began in an earlier part, the whole last part goes. None of the sources we checked on October 8, 2026 described that automatic trim to the sentence’s start.
Prompters inside editors and services
BIGVU pairs a prompter that pauses on silence with captions, AI tools and scheduling, and its free plan lists scheduling to social channels (BIGVU comparison). Captions matches your pace rather than your words and adds AI editing, avatars and dubbing that spend credits (Captions comparison).
CapCut’s mobile prompter is free, with a speed you set, inside a full multi-track editor (CapCut comparison). Instagram’s camera and the free Edits app put the script right below the front camera, and Edits exports 4K with no watermark (Instagram and Edits comparison). If you already edit in one of these, try its prompter before paying for another app.
Where Lightshot fits, and where it doesn’t
Lightshot is for one person filming on an iPhone who wants the take and the finish in one place: a line under the front camera that follows your voice, sentence redo during the take, then Auto edit to cut silences and add captions on the phone with no credits, an editor for the take, and posting to the networks you connect once each has approved Lightshot.
It doesn’t suit everyone. It runs on iPhone only, has no free plan or trial, asks for an account before you pay, publishes no language count, and has no ratings yet. If any of those matter, one of the apps above is the better start.
How to test a teleprompter before you commit
Take one paragraph you really need to record, with a name, a number, a pause and a short aside.
Read it in each app you’re considering and note where the script waits, where it resumes, and whether it jumps after the aside.
Get one sentence wrong on purpose and see what you can do about it without starting again.
Watch the saved file, not the preview, and check how much editing is left before you could post it.
