Representative scenario, not a customer story
Picture a tutor preparing an algebra explanation for students who missed class. The worked example is correct on paper. During filming, one denominator is spoken incorrectly, and restarting the entire lesson makes the next attempt sound hurried. The tutor needs to fix that one explanation without rewriting the lesson around the mistake.
Teach one step that can be checked
A lesson’s success criterion is specific: can the learner see why that denominator changed? Begin with the misconception, write the exact definition, and use an example small enough to inspect. Keep notation consistent between the spoken explanation and the board or slide.
Use the speaking-pace guide and script timer as planning aids. Neither knows how long a student needs to inspect an equation. Rehearse the calculation with the actual pauses, then shorten the material if it exceeds the lesson slot.
Can you record a landscape lesson for YouTube?
Yes. Lightshot records in landscape, and the script moves beside the camera so you still read near the lens. For a horizontal lesson, set Recording orientation to Landscape before the take. YouTube’s encoding guidance identifies 16:9 as its standard desktop shape, while its player also adapts to other shapes. Match the intended player rather than cropping away a calculation later.
Northern Illinois University’s recording advice recommends an eye-level phone and light on the speaker’s face. In a desk demonstration, inspect the paper as well: glare can make a pencil mark disappear even when the face looks fine.
Will voice-following keep up with technical terms?
It is more likely to, because up to 200 of the script’s own words are given to the recognizer as hints, but notation and unusual pronunciations still need a rehearsal. Write technical wording into the script and choose the matching speech language. Voice-follow uses the prepared text and waits during pauses; specialized notation and pronunciation still need a rehearsal. Physical-device tests for long scripts and accents remain incomplete.
If the denominator is wrong, redo the sentence containing it. Review the join to check that the correction includes the full reasoning. Preserve a thinking pause when it gives the learner time to work; removing every quiet moment can remove the exercise.
Check mathematical meaning in the captions
Use Edit all in the caption controls to correct terminology and punctuation after transcription. Read the displayed words against the audio, especially negatives, units and similar-sounding terms. A correctly written script does not eliminate the need to review what was recognized.
DCMP’s caption placement guidance recommends avoiding essential graphics and generally using no more than two lines. W3C’s accessibility guidance also includes meaningful non-speech sounds. Lightshot generates speech captions; those alone are not a claim of accessibility compliance. Check the school or course provider’s delivery requirements.
Can you narrate a lesson over slides?
Yes, in two steps: turn the deck into a movie, then record yourself over it. Keynote can export a presentation as a movie. Our slide-presentation workflow uses that movie as a demo backdrop. This route is untested end to end. Demo takes preserve the screen sequence, skip silence cuts and export at the original size, so set slide timing and shape before narrating.
For YouTube, review its made-for-kids guidance when deciding the audience setting. Educational content does not remove the need to make that decision. Platform guidance was checked September 27, 2026.
Check the lesson as the learner will receive it
In this representative lesson, the finish is a checked denominator, legible working and captions that agree with the narration. Play the saved video in the destination player before assigning it. Keep the original take if a later syllabus change will require another edit.
